Artist Statement
As a visual artist the American West has been a new and surprisingly unfamiliar territory for me. Since moving to Wyoming back in 2004 I have been in a state of awe at the vastness of the landscape as well as the shift in scale of the manmade objects contained within it. Every time I take a drive I cannot help but notice the human element and its contrast within the natural setting. To be more specific, the traces of our endeavors that dot the landscape serve as a metaphor for the human condition.
The ever reaching effects of human consumption, the cause and effect, and the long and short term repercussions of our actions become “conversations” I feel are imperative to express in my work. Much of the imagery in my art is drawn from personal experiences and interactions within my own culture, specifically focusing on societal values that are part of my daily life. My goal as an artist is to engage the viewer and inspire thought about what we do and why we do it, bringing to light issues that will in no doubt shape our future as well as the future of generations to come.
